Fire Risk Assessor Competency

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will*:

Instruction Methodology

The course uses a delegate workbook (the delegate keeps this for future reference), presentations and exercises which are interactively debriefed during the course.

Throughout the course delegates will complete the workbook exercises relevant to each presentation; on the last day delegates will complete a ‘mock premises’ fire risk assessment exercise (desktop exercise) and undertake a ‘walk round fire safety risk assessment*’ of the training venue.

The Trainer

Training is delivered by David; David is formally a Fire and Rescue Service Officer with 27 years’ experience, David was a warranted ‘Fire Safety Inspecting Officer’, Fire and Rescue Service Qualified Fire Investigation Officer. Since retiring David has delivered Fire Risk Assessment training nationally and has a wide range of experience in delivering such training to all sectors especially to Health and Safety practitioners. David continues to undertake fire risk assessments of a wide range of premises types throughout the UK. David is one of only 73 Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors on the FRACS register and is also listed on the IFSM Register of Fire Risk Assessors (No 151). David also has formal teaching qualifications (Dip Ed) as well as a wide range of ‘Fire and Rescue Service’ fire safety qualifications. As a fire safety practitioner David is aware of current Fire Safety practices.

Level 3 Award Qualification

To gain the Level 3 Award Qualification delegates have to (a) undertake a Multi-Choice Question Paper and (b) submit a written fire risk assessment report.

During the course delegates will complete a ‘Multi-Choice’ question paper under exam conditions (15 questions in 30 minutes). Where a delegate fails to achieve the pass mark of 10 correct answers they will be notified and will need to retake the test at a future date.

Delegates will take away a ‘Fire Risk Assessment’ template booklet. Within 10 working days, they should undertake a ‘fire risk assessment’ of a ‘simple premises’, complete the booklet, and return it via email (details provided during the course). As part of the assessment, delegates are encouraged to consider how home security systems can complement fire safety measures in residential settings. The submitted booklet will then be marked. Where the delegate passes both elements of the award scheme, a certificate will be issued. If a delegate’s work does not meet the required standard, feedback will be provided and they will have the opportunity to resubmit the ‘Fire Risk Assessment’ booklet.

Accreditation

We are an ‘Institute of Fire Safety Managers’ (IFSM) ‘Accredited Centre’.

We are an ‘Qualifications Network UK’ Accredited Centre.

Delegates receive a Level 3 Award Certificate, and ‘Certificate of Attendance’ Accredited by ‘The Institute of Fire Safety Managers’ (IFSM) is Awarded to each delegate that completes the course.

Continual Professional Development (CPD): 29 Hours of ‘Formal’ CPD is awarded by the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE).

Course Duration

5 Days 08.30 Hours to 17:00 Hours, with morning and afternoon breaks and 45 minutes for lunch. This 5-day course includes a light lunch, teas and coffees, soft drinks and light snacks each day.

Cost of the Course

Open Courses We endeavour to keep the cost of each course as low as practical, however, course held outside of Manchester are more expensive unfortunately. Courses are generally limited to 12 places, and they will be secured on a ‘first come first serve basis’ by return of the attached booking form. A minimum of 5 delegates are required for a course to run on any given date.
